How To Make New Hardware Look Old
After years of making rustic home decor, sometimes I find it almost impossible to find old hardware for my products. So when it comes to making my metal hardware look old, I have found a great formula to create authentic looking hardware from new stock.
Here is the formula:
*Take 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup peroxide and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Put these ingredients into a plastic container (not metal) and mix together. Put in your new metal hardware such as hinges, screws or nails, cover the container loosely and let your hardware sit overnight.
The next day, pore the liquid out and place your metal hardware on a towel to dry. After a short time you will find that your new metal hardware is now looking old and rustic just like the real thing!
Below are a couple examples of what you can do with new hardware and make it look old. If you have any questions about how to do this, please feel free to contact me through my "Customer Care" page and I will be glad to help.
